HOUSE BILL No. 5424
January 17, 2018, Introduced by Rep. Kosowski and referred to the Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs.
A bill to create a grant program to provide no-cost or
reduced-cost burials in state veterans cemeteries for certain
spouses and dependents of veterans.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1. As used in this act:
(a) "Department" means the department of military and veterans
affairs.
(b) "State veterans cemetery" means a cemetery operated and
maintained by this state for the benefit of deceased eligible
veterans or eligible spouses and dependents.
Sec. 2. The department shall create and operate a program to
grant no-cost or reduced-cost burials in a state veterans cemetery
to low-income spouses and dependents of veterans.
Sec. 3. The department shall promulgate rules governing
eligibility and application for the grant program provided in
section 2.
Enacting section 1. This act takes effect 90 days after the
date it is enacted into law.
