A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1278d.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1278d. (1) A school district or public school academy may
award a biliteracy diploma endorsement to a pupil who demonstrates
proficiency in English language arts and a language other than
English, as determined by rules promulgated under subsection (2).
(2) The department shall promulgate rules establishing a
biliteracy diploma endorsement for a pupil who demonstrates
proficiency in English language arts and a language other than
English. The rules promulgated under this subsection shall, at
least, do both of the following:
(a) Prescribe minimum credit requirements in English language
arts and a language other than English for a biliteracy diploma
endorsement.
(b) Identify examinations used to determine proficiency in
English language arts and a language other than English for a
biliteracy diploma endorsement.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
