HOUSE BILL No. 4534

 

April 10, 2013, Introduced by Reps. Muxlow and Santana and referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

 

     A bill to amend 1969 PA 287, entitled

 

"An act to regulate pet shops, animal control shelters, and animal

protection shelters; to establish uniform procedures and minimum

requirements for adoption of dogs, cats, and ferrets; and to

prescribe penalties and civil fines and to provide remedies,"

 

(MCL 287.331 to 287.340) by adding section 8b.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 8b. (1) An animal control shelter or animal protection

 

shelter shall not permit an individual to adopt an animal unless

 

the animal control shelter or animal protection shelter has first

 

searched for that individual on an animal abuse registry. If an

 

individual seeking to adopt an animal is listed on an animal abuse

 

registry, an animal control shelter or animal protection shelter

 

shall not permit that individual to adopt an animal.

 

     (2) As used in this section, "animal abuse registry" means an

 

animal abuse registry created by the department of state police

 


under state law enacted after January 1, 2013.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect

 

unless Senate Bill No.____ or House Bill No. 4535(request no.

 

00446'13) of the 97th Legislature is enacted into law.
