HOUSE BILL No. 4175

 

 

February 13, 2019, Introduced by Reps. Cherry, Pagan, Kennedy, Cynthia Johnson, Neeley, Hood, Sneller, Peterson, Hoadley and Jones and referred to the Committee on Regulatory Reform.

 

     A bill to amend 1972 PA 230, entitled

 

"Stille-DeRossett-Hale single state construction code act,"

 

by amending section 13b (MCL 125.1513b), as added by 1988 PA 146.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 13b. (1) As used in this section, "lead free" means

 

either of the following:

 

     (a) Solder and flux containing not more than 0.2% lead.

 

     (b) Pipe and pipe fittings containing not more than 8% lead.

 

     (2) Beginning on the effective date of this section, pipes,

 

the following, as applicable:

 

     (a) Not containing more than 0.2% lead, when used to describe

 

solder and flux.

 

     (b) Not more than a weighted average of 0.25% lead, when used

 

to describe the wetted surfaces of pipes, pipe fittings,

 

plumbing fittings, and fixtures.


     (2) Pipes, pipe fittings, solder, or flux which that are used

 

in the installation or repair, on or after June 7, 1988, of a

 

plumbing system in a building or structure providing water for

 

human consumption or a public water system shall be lead free.

 

     (3) This section shall does not apply to leaded joints

 

necessary for the repair of cast iron pipes.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days

 

after the date it is enacted into law.
