Summary
Amend KRS 218A.202 to direct advanced practice registered nurses authorized to prescribe controlled substances to register for electronic access to the controlled substance monitoring system created by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services prior to prescribing or dispensing a controlled substance or within a set time period; require the advanced practice registered nurse to check a patient through the system before first prescribing or dispensing a controlled substance; mandate the same check at least once every three months for continuing patients; direct a check through the monitoring system for a patient who has not been continuously treated for a period of three months; exempt an advanced practice registered nurse from the monitoring system requirements if the nurse administers a controlled substance in a surgical, emergency, or hospice setting; amend KRS 314.042 to delete the requirement that an advanced practice registered nurse enter into a collaborative agreement with a physician before prescribing or dispensing nonscheduled legend drugs.
