Summary
Amend KRS 316.030 to create an alternate funeral director apprenticeship method that qualifies toward licensure as a funeral director; name the existing method a "formal" apprenticeship and the new method an "informal" apprenticeship; base the informal apprenticeship on at least 10 consecutive years of prior experience in a Kentucky funeral establishment under the supervision of a licensed funeral director; allow relevant education to substitute for up to two of the 10 years of experience; require an informal apprenticeship applicant to appear before the board, pay a $30 registration fee, and demonstrate sufficient life experience and competency; direct an applicant to file the supervising funeral director's sworn statement that the applicant has worked on salary for an average of 20 hours per week during the required 10 years; enable an applicant to register an informal apprenticeship up to six months before submitting a license application; exempt an informal apprenticeship from the formal apprenticeship semiannual reporting requirement.
