A SENATE RESOLUTION to honor former Indiana State
Senator Jim Lewis for his service to his district and his many
contributions to the citizens of Indiana.

MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION to honor former Indiana State
Senator Jim Lewis for his service to his district and his many
contributions to the citizens of Indiana.
Whereas, A dedicated public servant, State Senator Jim
Lewis spent a lifetime working to improve the lives of Hoosiers;
Whereas, After serving in the Indiana House of
Representatives for four years, Jim Lewis was elected to the
Indiana Senate in 1974, serving as the Democrat Caucus
Chairperson from 1988 until 2007;
Whereas, In addition to his leadership positions, Jim Lewis
served on many committees, including the Natural Resources
Committee- as the ranking Democrat- as well as the Insurance
and Financial Institutions Committee; Agriculture and Small
Business Committee; Homeland Security, Transportation, and
Veteran Affairs Committee; and Appointments and Claims
Committee. He also served on the Transportation Committee
of the National Conference of State Legislatures, which is a
bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of
the nation's fifty states, its commonwealths, and territories;
Whereas, Jim Lewis is a tireless advocate for natural resources. One of his legislative accomplishments was the creation of the Charlestown City State Park;
Whereas, Before his election to state office, Jim Lewis held several positions at the local level including serving on the Charlestown City Council and as a Clark County Councilman;
Whereas, Jim Lewis is an avid reader and Presidential
historian, being a member of the Indiana Abraham Lincoln
Bicentennial Commission and the Indiana Lewis and Clark
Bicentennial Commission from 2003-2006;
Whereas, Jim Lewis also enjoys the game of basketball,
both watching and playing- a true Hoosier; and
Whereas, Jim Lewis attended Purdue University before
moving on to become a building contractor in his self-owned
business. He is now retired and enjoys spending time with his
wife, Anna Mae, his three adult sons, nine grandchildren and
five great grandchildren; therefore:
SECTION 1. The Senate of the Indiana General Assembly honors State Senator Jim Lewis for his service and many contributions to the State of Indiana.
SECTION 2. That on behalf of the people of the State of Indiana, we hereby extend our sincere appreciation to State Senator Jim Lewis for his service to the Indiana Senate.
SECTION 3. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Jim Lewis.
