A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating Sue Ann Hartig on
her retirement as Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society
of Evansville after 26 years of dedicated service to helping the
poor.

MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating Sue Ann Hartig
on her retirement as Executive Director of the Legal Aid
Society of Evansville after 26 years of dedicated service to
helping the poor.
Whereas, The Legal Aid Society is a nonprofit law firm,
primarily funded by the city of Evansville, Vanderburgh County
and the United Way. Aside from legal assistance, the Legal Aid
Society has reached numerous groups, including the Evansville
Police Department, in their outreach programs designed to
train individuals and organizations on how to handle issues
that low-income clients face. These community collaborations
have significantly increased the value of the services that the
clients are provided with;
Whereas, As the Executive Director, Sue Ann Hartig's sole
focus was to ensure that the social and legal needs of low-
come families in Evansville were met;
Whereas, The legal aid program has helped hundreds of
residents each year who would not otherwise have access to
these resources. Today the Evansville legal aid program is a
model program in the state of Indiana;
Whereas, Sue Ann Hartig has managed to stretch a small budget to serve and deliver justice through pro bono services. It is because of her passion for public interest work that Sue Ann has been able to achieve all that she has within the Legal Aid Society; and
Whereas, Sue Ann Hartig will be stepping down from her
director position, but will continue to serve in the capacity of a
staff attorney. Her commitment to service is evident. Her
colleagues cite her leadership, perseverance, and tenacity as
attributes that have allowed the Legal Aid Society to continue
serving the community: Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana State Senate honors Sue Ann Hartig's 26 years of service as Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society of Evansville.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Sue Ann Hartig.
