SENATE RESOLUTION

     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating Sue Ann Hartig on her retirement as Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society of Evansville after 26 years of dedicated service to helping the poor.

    Whereas, The Legal Aid Society is a nonprofit law firm, primarily funded by the city of Evansville, Vanderburgh County and the United Way. Aside from legal assistance, the Legal Aid Society has reached numerous groups, including the Evansville Police Department, in their outreach programs designed to train individuals and organizations on how to handle issues that low-income clients face. These community collaborations have significantly increased the value of the services that the clients are provided with;

    Whereas, As the Executive Director, Sue Ann Hartig's sole focus was to ensure that the social and legal needs of low- come families in Evansville were met;

    Whereas, The legal aid program has helped hundreds of residents each year who would not otherwise have access to these resources. Today the Evansville legal aid program is a model program in the state of Indiana;

    Whereas, Sue Ann Hartig has managed to stretch a small budget to serve and deliver justice through pro bono services. It is because of her passion for public interest work that Sue Ann has been able to achieve all that she has within the Legal Aid Society; and

    Whereas, Sue Ann Hartig will be stepping down from her director position, but will continue to serve in the capacity of a staff attorney. Her commitment to service is evident. Her colleagues cite her leadership, perseverance, and tenacity as attributes that have allowed the Legal Aid Society to continue serving the community: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. The Indiana State Senate honors Sue Ann Hartig's 26 years of service as Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society of Evansville.
