MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION urging the Legislative Council to assign
to the Health Finance Commission the topic of tanning beds and their
relationship to cancer.
Whereas, The use of tanning beds has been linked with skin cancers,
including melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and cancers of the
eye;
Whereas, The use of a tanning bed exposes users to both UVA and
UVB rays, which damage the skin and may lead to cancer; and
Whereas, Further study is necessary to determine the steps that must
be taken in order to ensure that all people are protected from the
dangers presented by the use of tanning beds: Therefore,
of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
SECTION 1. That the Legislative Council is urged to assign to the
Health Finance Commission the topic of tanning beds and their
relationship to cancer.
