SENATE RESOLUTION


     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION to honoring Al DeRoo, the longest serving police officer in South Bend history.

    Whereas, Al DeRoo joined the South Bend Police Department on May 16, 1963;

    Whereas, Al DeRoo will retire as a sergeant from the South Bend Police Department on March 2, 2011, after forty seven years, nine months, and thirteen days of service;

    Whereas, Al DeRoo served as patrol officer, in the juvenile bureau, as an accident investigator, with burglary, with robbery, in homicide, water patrol, missing persons, and finally as detective;

    Whereas, prior to his service in the South Bend Police Department, Al DeRoo served in the United States Navy;

    Whereas, Al DeRoo possesses the natural inquisitiveness and bearing to conduct police business in a professional and courteous manner; and

    Whereas, Al DeRoo is married to his wife, Betty Lou, and

graduated from Mishawaka High School and has three daughters, four grandchildren, and three great grand children; therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly wishes to congratulate Al DeRoo on his service to the community of South Bend and his retirement from the South Bend Police Department.
    SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to Al DeRoo.
