SENATE RESOLUTION

MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

        A RESOLUTION urging the legislative council to establish an interim study committee to study increased penalties for battery of a licensed security guard.

    Whereas, Battery committed against a security guard while the guard is performing the guard's duties should warrant harsher penalties;

    Whereas, Security guards often patrol areas that previously had been patrolled by police officers, including shopping malls, workplaces, apartment buildings, neighborhoods, banks, and highly congested public places;

    Whereas, These private security guards often lack adequate training to deal with situations that may arise in these areas; and

    Whereas, Further study is necessary to determine if harsher penalties are required for battery of a licensed security guard: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. That the legislative council is urged to establish an interim study committee to study increased penalties for battery of a licensed security guard.
    SECTION 2. That the committee, if established, shall operate

under the direction of the legislative council, and that the committee shall issue a final report when directed to do so by the council.
