MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION recognizing Yorktown High
School for being named a National Blue Ribbon School by the
United States Department of Education.
Whereas, The United States Secretary of Education, Arne
Duncan, recognized 269 schools as 2012 National Blue Ribbon
Schools, based on their overall academic excellence or for
making progress in improving student academic achievement
levels;
Whereas, Yorktown High School was named a National
Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education in the
category of "Exemplary High Performing." This category
recognizes schools that are among the state's highest
performing schools, as measured by state assessments or
nationally-normed tests;
Whereas, The U.S. Department of Education established
the National Blue Ribbon School program in 1982 to recognize
the top schools from each state out of more than 138,000
schools nationwide;
Whereas, Yorktown High School was one of only eight
schools nominated for Blue Ribbon by the Indiana Department
of Education for 2012 and one of two Indiana schools to
receive the award in 2012; and
Whereas, Yorktown High School, located in Delaware
County, has a 95% graduation rate and exceptional scores on
standard and AP tests: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana State Senate congratulates
Yorktown High School on being named a National Blue Ribbon
School.

transmit a copy of this Resolution to Principal Kelly Whittman and
