SENATE RESOLUTION

     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION memorializing the life and public service of Pamela E. Merritt.

    Whereas, Pamela E. (Witham) Merritt was born March 1, 1944 and passed away January 11, 2013 at the age of 68 years old;

    Whereas, Pamela was the daughter of Virgil and Betty Jean Witham and lived her entire life in Anderson, Indiana;

    Whereas, Pamela was happily married to Samuel P. Merritt until his passing in 2005 and together, the couple had two wonderful children, Frederick E. Merritt I and Jeanesta A. Merritt;

    Whereas, Pamela graduated from Anderson High School in 1962 and found work in the public sector;

    Whereas, Before retiring, Pamela spent 29 years working for the city of Anderson, which includes being a secretary for then-mayor Tom McMahan and working for a number of years in the city controller's office;

    Whereas, At all times, Pamela was well known to her colleagues and the public as a knowledgeable, cheerful, and capable public servant with a ready smile and a twinkle in her eye;

    Whereas, Pamela was always supportive of her favorite sports team, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish;

    Whereas, Pamela had a proverbial green thumb and could frequently be found tending to her beloved garden; and

    Whereas, Outside of work, Pamela was a member of the Indiana Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 154, part of the largest fraternal organization in the world that allows both men and women: Therefore,
    

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate memorializes the life and public service of Pamela E. Merritt.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution to her two children, Frederick E. Merrit I and Jeanesta A. Merritt.
