policeman and entrepreneur Robert "Bob" Graham.

MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION memorializing Anderson
veteran, policeman and entrepreneur Robert "Bob" Graham.
Whereas, Robert "Bob" Graham was born November 17,
1922 and passed away January 12, 2013 at the age of 90 years
old;
Whereas, Robert was the son of Charles L. and Pearl
Graham;
Whereas, Robert married Bobbie Graham and had three
children, Rise, Tammy and Robert, and two step-children, Jada
and Jason;
Whereas, Robert attended school in his hometown,
Anderson, Indiana, where he lived his entire life;
Whereas, Robert joined the Marine Corps in 1943 as part
of the 2nd Marine Division, 3rd Battalion, Company I;
Whereas, Robert received an Honorable Medical Discharge after surviving a battle on the beaches of Tarawa in the Gilbert Islands, known as the bloodiest battle in Marine Corps history;
Whereas, In 1945, Robert was the first World War II veteran hired by the Anderson Police Department and ascended to the rank of Inspector;
Whereas, Robert was extremely active in the State Lodge of
Indiana Fraternal Order of Police where he held the positions
of State President, State Lodge of Trustee, Conductor, Vice
President, and Director of Public Relations;
Whereas, Staying active outside of work, Robert was also
an "Award of Gold" 50 year member of the Fellowship Masonic
Lodge #681, a 50 year member of the Elk's Lodge in Anderson,
and a life member of Disabled American Veterans, American
Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars;
Whereas, After his patrol partner, Officer Morris
Carpenter, was shot 5 times, Robert disarmed the subject and
the pair received a Letter of Commendation from Anderson
Police Department and a Citation for Bravery from the
Chamber of Commerce and the Citizens of Anderson; and
Whereas, Robert founded Graham Detective Services, Inc.
in 1967, which has investigated cases in 43 states and works for
the Public Defenders of Madison County Courts: Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate memorializes Anderson veteran,
policeman and entrepreneur Robert "Bob" Graham.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this resolution to his wife, Bobbie Graham.
