A SENATE RESOLUTION to honoring Mayor Chuck Oberlie
of Michigan City, for his many accomplishments and
contributions to the citizens of Michigan City.
, read first time and referred to Committee on
MADAM PRESIDENT:
I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:
A SENATE RESOLUTION honoring Mayor Chuck
Oberlie of Michigan City, for his many accomplishments and
contributions to the citizens of Michigan City.
Whereas, Mayor Oberlie is currently serving his second
term as Mayor of Michigan City, focusing his efforts on
improving education for local youth; bringing good-paying
jobs to Michigan City; and improving the quality of life for
residents; and
Whereas, Mayor Oberlie partnered with the Michigan City
School system to provide supervised instruction and activities
for children after school, the nationally-recognized Michigan
City Safe Harbor After School Program; and
Whereas, Mayor Oberlie's leadership and funding support
helped create the successful Early Learning Center for 3-5 year
olds; and
Whereas, Mayor Oberlie has dedicated 40 years to the city, serving as City Planner, City Controller, Chamber of Commerce President, and Northwest Indiana Forum President,
where he provided the leadership and guidance to achieve the
development and approval of Michigan City's Trail Creek Re-
Use Plan, which provides a world-class vision for the
renaissance of Michigan City's North End; and
Whereas, Mayor Oberlie is a contributing member in many
public service and professional organizations, including the
Michigan City Economic Development Corporation, the
LaPorte County Solid Waste Board, the Lake Michigan Marina
Development Commission, the Indiana Association of Cities
and Towns, the Northern Indiana Regional Planning
Commission, and the Michigan City Board of Public Works and
Safety; and
Whereas, Mayor Oberlie also contributes his personal time
through organizations such as the American Cancer Society,
Michiana Resources, Michigan City Exchange Club, and St.
Mary's Church.
SECTION 1. The State of Indiana honors Mayor Oberlie, for his many accomplishments and contributions to the citizens of Michigan City .
SECTION 2. That on behalf of the people of the State of Indiana, we hereby extend our sincere appreciation to Mayor Chuck Oberlie for his dedicated service.
SECTION 3. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Mayor Chuck Oberlie.
