SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION No. _____

    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Valparaiso High School Gymnastics team on their fourth-straight state championship.

     Whereas, The Valparaiso High School Girls Gymnastics team clinched a state record by winning their fourth-straight gymnastics team state championship at Ball State's Worthen Arena. By topping seven other teams in the four events of the meet, Valparaiso earned a place in history by winning the school's ninth state girls gymnastics championship;

    Whereas, An early fall on the balance beam put the team behind Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger and Columbus North. “The only thing you can do is move on,” sophomore Morgan Algozine said after the meet, and move on they did. A strong performance in the last three events gave Valparaiso an edge over both teams and secured their place in history;

    Whereas, Junior Steffanie Long led the Valparaiso Vikings by winning floor exercise (9.85) and vault (9.675). Long also placed fourth in bars (9.475), giving her a combined score of 38.325 and earning state-best all-around champion;

    Whereas, Sophomore Morgan Algozine's impressive performance also propelled Valparaiso to victory by winning bars (9.675) and landing runner-up to teammate Steffanie

Long on floor (9.725) and vault (9.65). Algozine captured third in the all-around standings;

    Whereas, Vikings Head Coach Lorie Cook said the win is a "huge tribute to the kids out there on the floor and the ones who've gone before them. It takes an army. They're amazing people and our coaching staff is amazing." For Cook, the state championship was her ninth as head coach. She coached her first state championship team back in 1981; and

    Whereas, The Valparaiso High School Girls Gymnastics team's depth, physical and mental toughness, and excellent coaching staff contributed to the success of the Viking gymnastics program and their record making fourth-straight state championship: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly
