    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION to honor Spencer Turner of Bloomington South High for winning the Arthur L. Trester Mental Attitude Award, presented by the Indiana High School Athletic Association.
    
    Whereas, Spencer Turner is on the Bloomington South High boys basketball team, which has won the 2011 IHSAA Class 4A State Final;

    Whereas, Spencer Turner has earned a 3.92 GPA by completing advanced placement and honors classes. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and an Academic All-State selection;

    Whereas, Spencer Turner is a four-year varsity player for the Panthers, serving as the team co-captain this season;

    Whereas, Spencer Turner has also been nominated for the McDonald's All-American Team and the Larry Bird Character Award;

    Whereas, Spencer Turner has also served on the Conference Indiana Leadership Council for four years and is a Conference Indiana Sportsmanship Representative;

    Whereas, Spencer Turner is involved in a variety of church-related activities with the Sherwood Oaks Christian

Church and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes;


    Whereas, Spencer Turner is the son of Scott and Kim Turner; and

    Whereas, The award is named after the IHSAA's first commissioner who served the Association from 1929-1944. The award is presented annually to a senior who participated in the state finals who best demonstrates mental attitude, scholarship, leadership, and athletic ability; therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:


SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates Spencer Turner on his Mental Attitude Award and winning the Class 4A State Championship.
SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution be transmitted to Spencer Turner.
