decorated World War II hero.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Robert Gipson,
decorated World War II hero.
Whereas, Robert Gipson began active duty in the U.S.
Army on July 27, 1944 and continued his service through
April 10, 1947. He also served in the Air Force from 1948
through 1949, when he received an honorable discharge;
Whereas, Mr. Gipson attended basic training in
Arkansas, after which he was assigned to the front lines in La
Havre, France;
Whereas, Robert served as a member of the C Co., 2nd
Inf. Reg., 5th Division, 3rd Army. Amongst heavy resistance
and a great loss of troops, several men, including Robert
Gipson, were captured and taken as prisoners of war.
During his capture, Robert and his fellow soldiers were
forced by German soldiers to travel in boxcars and march on
foot, along cobblestone roads, in the midst of U.S. bombing
and strafing. The marching continued for several days, until
the U.S. men were liberated just outside of Berlin;
Whereas, Because of his heroic bravery, Robert Gipson was presented with two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, the POW Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the Combat
Infantry Badge, and the Honorable Service Lapel Button
WWII;
Whereas, Along with his wife Dolores, Robert has two
daughters, Robin and Debra and a son, Bobby. Robert is a
retired Ford Motor Company worker, and a member of the
VFW Post 6195, the American Legion Post 13, the Masonic
Lodge, and is one of the founding members of the Brown
County Honor Guard; and
Whereas, Robert Gipson made great personal sacrifices
to protect the freedoms we enjoy today. He fought valiantly
for this country and deserves to be recognized for this
commitment: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly honors and thanks Robert Gipson, a decorated World War II veteran, for his service to our country.
SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Robert Gipson, the American Legion Post 13, and the VFW Post 6195 in Nashville, Indiana.
