A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Hoosier Hills Food
Bank on their 30th anniversary.
Whereas, Hoosier Hills Food Bank (HHFB) was founded
on November 18, 1982 in Bloomington, Indiana, and has
distributed over 38 million pounds of food in 30 years;
Whereas, HHFB is a non-profit corporation dedicated to
the elimination of hunger in south central Indiana, and is
committed to the fair treatment and dignity of all persons,
and the right of all people to have access to nutritious food;
Whereas, HHFB ensures the accountability and
transparency of donors, providing fair working conditions
and benefits to employees, working diligently to provide
partner agencies with the highest quality food possible, and
has an appreciation of the diverse nature of the community;
Whereas, HHFB serves the needs of 25,800 clients
annually in Brown, Crawford, Greene, Lawrence, Martin,
Monroe, Orange, and Owen counties;
Whereas, HHFB distributes goods to 94 non-profit
member agencies, including food pantries, soup kitchens,
homeless shelters, and youth groups;
Whereas, Each month, Staff and volunteers rescue over
273,000 pounds of damaged, dated, and prepared food that
otherwise might be wasted, and channels that food to those
in need;
Whereas, Food distribution at HHFB has doubled since
2006, and totals approximately 6 tons every day;
Whereas, HHFB runs an exceptional volunteer program,
utilizing the support of over 3,000 people each year;
Whereas, Familes First Mobile Pantry is HHFB's direct-
service program that provides nutritious foods directly to 300
Lawrence County residents struggling with poverty,
disability, and hunger;
Whereas, HHFB hosts several other community events
and programs, including Live from Bloomington, the Soup
Bowl Benefit, Food Rescue & Repack, Garden & Gleaning,
Plant-a-Row, the Emergency Food Assistance Program, and
the Commodity Supplemental Food Program; and
Whereas, HHFB has a dedicated and passionate staff of
19 members, led by Executive Director Julio Alonso, and 15-
member Board of Directors, led by President Kevin Robling:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate congratulates Hoosier Hills Food
Bank on 30 years of selfless public service to the citizens of Indiana.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this resolution to a Hoosier Hills Food Bank
representative during Hunger Awareness Day at the Statehouse.
