RESOLUTION No. _____
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Lafayette
Central Catholic Junior-Senior High School football team on winning
the Class A State Championship.
Whereas, After a grueling season during which they were
ranked second place, the Lafayette Central Catholic Knights
clinched the Class A State Football championship;
Whereas, This win marks the fourth straight year that the
Knights finished their season with a state championship
victory, ranking the team second overall in Indiana football
history. This feat is exceptionally meaningful for the seniors
who have now won the state championship all four years of
their high school football careers;
Whereas, In winning the championship, the Lafayette
Central Catholic Knights relied on its defense and special
teams. The Knights held the Crusaders to only 165 offensive
yards and zero points while tallying the only points of the
game, an offensive touchdown and a punt return, sealing the
14-0 victory;
Whereas, This game situation was nothing new to the
Knights as the team faced the Crusaders in the state
championship game last year as well. The Knights were then
as they are now-victorious;
Whereas, Jimmy Mills, while contributing to his team, set himself apart for his work as an individual. He was named the winner of the Phil N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award, an award given to a senior who best demonstrates excellence in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership, and athletic ability;
Whereas, Another outstanding individual is Coach Kevin O'Shea, whose guidance has led the Knights to four consecutive state titles, the first coach in Indiana to do so. Over his five season career, Coach O'Shea has a phenomenal 68-3 record;
Whereas, The Lafayette Central Catholic football team
has shown that through hard work, commitment, and
dedication, they have remained dominant in Class A football;
and
Whereas, The Lafayette Central Catholic Knights have
asserted themselves as a force to be reckoned with. We
congratulate the team on their state championship and wish
them luck in the future: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates
the Lafayette Central Catholic High School on clinching the Class A
State Football Championship.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to Coach Kevin O'Shea and
Athletic Director Tim Bordenet.
