Central Catholic football team on winning back to back Class A state
championships, going undefeated both seasons.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Lafayette
Central Catholic football team on winning back to back Class A state
championships, going undefeated both seasons.
Whereas, The unbeaten and number one ranked Lafayette
Central Catholic football team continued its dominance in
Class A state football by winning their second straight state
championship, defeating Fountain Central 31-6;
Whereas, Leading only 7-6 at halftime, Lafayette Central
Catholic used an interception by Austin Mitchell and a
fumble recovery by Cody Christopher to set up a pair of
second-half touchdowns. They outscored Fountain Central
24-0 in the second half to secure the 31-6 victory;
Whereas, Lafayette Central Catholic amassed 204
rushing yards in the game, led by Danny Anthrop's 93 yards
on 6 carries;
Whereas, Lafayette Central Catholic Head Coach Kevin
O'Shea said about the win, "What was great about the win is
that I think this program is established now. Last year we
had a fantastic group and everybody expected us to win.
This year we graduated eight guys on each side of the ball.
It was a project each and every week and we got better each
game";
Whereas, Coach O'Shea credits his team's depth and conditioning for their success this season. O'Shea said, "Our players seem to thrive in the third and fourth quarters and our depth wears a lot of opponents out. We did a great job of not panicking and playing our game - that is a credit to our players";
Whereas, Senior Cody Christopher was named the Phil
N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award winner after the game. The
award is presented annually to a senior in each classification
who best demonstrates excellence in mental attitude,
scholarship, leadership and athletic ability. Christopher has
a 3.6 GPA and is interested in studying pre-denistry;
Whereas, The state championship was the second in a
row for Lafayette Central Catholic and its fourth state
championship overall. The victory extended the team's
winning streak to 30 games and ensured a second
consecutive 15-0 season; and
Whereas, Winning the Class A state championship for the
second year in a row is an incredible accomplishment for the
Lafayette Central Catholic football team and worthy of
enormous praise: Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly congratulates the
Lafayette Central Catholic football team on winning its second straight
Class A state championship.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Lafayette Central Catholic
football team and Head Coach Kevin O'Shea.
