    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION memorializing Kenton “Eric” Clark.
    
     Whereas, Kenton “Eric” Clark passed away on October 7, 2009, at the age of 74;

    Whereas, Clark was born in Indianapolis. He entered 1st grade at Carmel Elementary and remained involved with Carmel schools for the remainder of his life;

    Whereas, Clark graduated from Carmel High School in 1953. While a student, he played football and basketball, and he ran track;

    Whereas, Clark was also an athlete at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. At Earlham, he earned 12 varsity athletic letters in football, basketball, track, and volleyball. He later earned the George Van Dyke Award for Outstanding Male Athlete. Clark is now a member of Earlham's Athletic Hall of Fame;

    Whereas, After furthering his education with a master's degree from Butler University, Clark returned to Carmel schools as an educator;

    Whereas, During his 39 year tenure, Clark served as a teacher, counselor, assistant principal, and head coach of the

boy's basketball team;

     Whereas, From 1970-1977, Clark served as a coach of the Carmel boy's basketball team. In 1977, he led the team to the school's first state championship. He earned the title of Indiana Coach of the Year for the 1976-1977 season. He went on to coach the Indiana All-Stars in 1978;

    Whereas, After his stint as basketball coach, Clark transitioned into the role of assistant principal, where he stayed until his retirement in 1997;

    Whereas, Clark has earned many awards and distinctions. In 1997, Governor Frank O'Bannon awarded Clark with The Sagamore of the Wabash. In 2000, he was awarded the Rotary Club of Carmel's Outstanding Service Award;

    Whereas, Clark's accomplishments have also earned him honors in the Carmel High School Athletic Hall of Fame, Carmel High School Alumni Hall of Fame, Hamilton County Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame;

    Whereas, Clark was honored with the "Eric Clark Activity Center", the Carmel High School athletic facilities which were named after Clark upon his retirement;

    Whereas, Clark's involvement within the Carmel School community did not end with his retirement. He attended almost every Carmel High School basketball and football game even after he retired, whether the game was played at home or away; and

     Whereas, Clark was a coach and educator who genuinely enjoyed his work. Like the building named for him, Clark's legacy will remain a part of Carmel High School for many years to come: Therefore,    



Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly memorializes Kenton “Eric” Clark for his accomplishments and contributions in the Carmel Clay School System.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Kenton “Eric” Clark's wife, Betty; John J. Williams , Principal of Carmel High School; Dr. Barb Underwood , Superintendent of Carmel Schools, and the Carmel School Board.
