No. 17

        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the Indiana Department of Transportation to name any part of Interstate 69 south of Interstate 465 the Iraq Afghanistan Veterans Memorial Highway.

    Whereas, The torch of patriotism has been held high in Indiana by brave men and women willing to fight to ensure that freedom forever lives in our country and around the world;

    Whereas, Hoosiers are currently far away from home fighting to preserve freedom in the world and to help prevent terrorism from attacking our shores again;

    Whereas, These brave men and women have fought in Iraq and are still fighting in Afghanistan under deplorable conditions working to improve the lives of the people of the region and to make the world a safer place in which to live;

    Whereas, The men and women of today's Indiana Army and Air National Guard constitute a formidable fighting force, and they are integral parts of the United States Armed Forces, consistently earning high ratings for mission accomplishments, training, efficiency, and combat readiness;

    Whereas, An increased number of soldiers from the Indiana Army and Air National Guard have served proudly in Iraq and Afghanistan along side their fellow Hoosiers serving on
active duty with the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard;

    Whereas, Since September 11, 2001, over 14,000 Indiana Army Guard Soldiers and over 3,200 Indiana Guard Airmen have supported the Global War On Terror through deployments overseas;

    Whereas, Our nation should never forget the brave men and women who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and the families and friends of those who did not return; and

    Whereas, The Indiana General Assembly and the citizens of the State of Indiana have the greatest pride in the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, support them in their efforts, and believe that special recognition is due these brave Hoosiers: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,
