    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION promoting the literacy program in Dearborn County.

    Whereas, Dearborn County has created Black, White, and Read, a program to support and increase literacy awareness in a community reading program;

    Whereas, Black, White, and Read programs will unite and uplift hundreds of citizens in Dearborn County, Indiana;

    Whereas, A community read is a shared reading and discussion amongst a wide variety of community members. It can bring together individuals from various backgrounds, education and socio-economic levels;

    Whereas, The Dearborn Community Read will feature "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald, a widely regarded paragon of the Great American Novel and a literary classic; and "Black Beauty" by Anna Sewell, which teaches animal welfare and how to treat people with kindness, sympathy, and respect;

    Whereas, The culmination of this year-long reading program will facilitate healthy families by working with the entire family unit developing life skills, literacy skills, and a strong commitment to family wholeness;


    Whereas, The Hoosier Hills Literacy League, in collaboration with the Aurora Public Library District, Dearborn Highlands Arts Council, Friends of the Lawrenceburg Public Library, IVY Teach Community College, and Lawrenceburg Public Library District, have resolved to bring this community reading project to the citizens of Dearborn County, Indiana; and

    Whereas, Black, White, and Read is a program that can break down barriers of every different sort, as well as improve and encourage literacy awareness: Therefore;

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:

    SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly promotes the literacy program, Black, White, and Read in Dearborn County, Indiana.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Dearborn County Library Board.
