Youth Choir on winning two gold medals at the World Choir Games in
Shaoxing, China.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Voices of
Unity Youth Choir on winning two gold medals at the World Choir
Games in Shaoxing, China.
Whereas, The Voices of Unity Youth Choir is a unique
and exciting soulful choral group under the rubric of the
Unity Peforming Arts Foundation, a community-based,
multi-faceted performing arts organization based in Fort
Wayne, Indiana;
Whereas, The Voices of Unity Youth Choir has an upbeat
and creative environment which fosters discipline, teamwork,
and professionalism. Their curriculum sets a standard of
"excellence and nothing less" that brings even the most shy
or uncertain child out of his or her shell, instills confidence,
and helps to improve every child's ability to socially adapt to
other people, cultures, and environments;
Whereas, The membership of the Voices of Unity Youth
Choir is very diverse. Approximately 2 percent are African,
47 percent are African-American, 22 percent are bi-racial,
20 percent are Caucasian, and 9 percent are Latino;
Whereas, All participants of the Voices of Unity Youth Choir are worthy of enormous praise, including 80 youth choir members and 23 musicians, mentors, and support staff. Particular commendation is given to Marshall White, the
choir's founder and director, for his outstanding work with
the choir;
Whereas, The Voices of Unity Youth Choir has performed
at several Indianapolis Colts events, including the opening
of Lucas Oil Stadium in 2008. Bill Polian, President of the
Indianapolis Colts, has officially endorsed the Voices of
Unity Youth Choir;
Whereas, From July 15th through July 26th, 2010, the
Voices of Unity Youth Choir competed in the World Choir
Games in Shaoxing, China, facing more than 480 choirs from
over 80 nations;
Whereas, The Voices of Unity Youth Choir competed in
two categories, Popular Choral Music and Gospel and
Spiritual;
Whereas, In the Popular Choral Music category, the
Voices of Unity Youth Choir earned the second most points
overall, thus making them the number two Popular Music
Choir in the world. They also earned enough points in the
category to win a gold medal; and
Whereas, In the Gospel and Spiritual category, the
Voices of Unity Youth Choir earned the most points out of
any choir, making them grand champion and thus having
earned the distinction as the number one Soulful Choral
Youth Choir in the world. In addition, their point total
earned them a gold medal and a trophy: Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly congratulates the
Voices of Unity Youth Choir on winning two gold medals at the World
Choir Games in Shaoxing, China.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to Marshall White, the founder and director of the Voices of Unity Youth Choir; and to each member, volunteer and mentor of the Voices of Unity Youth Choir.
