    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning professions and occupations.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SOURCE: IC 25-22.5-1-2.5; (11)IN0138.1.1. -->     SECTION 1. IC 25-22.5-1-2.5 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2011]: Sec. 2.5. (a) As used in this section, "cosmetic surgery" means an elective operation that is performed in order to improve a patient's appearance. The term includes the following:
        (1) Liposuction.
        (2) Elective facial cosmetic surgery.
    (b)
A physician may not perform cosmetic surgery on a patient unless the patient has received:
        (1) a physical examination by; and
        (2) written clearance for the procedure from;
a physician who is licensed under this article and who is a surgeon.
    (c) The physical examination required in subsection (b) must include the physician taking the patient's complete medical history.
