Synopsis: Student instructional time. Provides that a school
corporation shall conduct at least: (1) 900 hours of instructional time
for students in grades 1 through 6; and (2) 1,080 hours of instructional
time for students in grades 7 through 12; in at least 180 student
instructional days. Provides that a school corporation that conducts at
least: (1) 910 hours of instructional time for grades 1 through 6; and (2)
1,092 hours of instructional time for grades 7 through 12; and has a
contract with the school corporation's certificated employees that
provides for fewer than 183 teacher days may dismiss students for not
more than four hours each grading period to conduct parent-teacher
conferences. Modifies the formula for determining the reduction in the
August tuition support distribution to a school corporation that fails to
conduct the minimum number of student instructional days during a
school term.

A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
education.
(1) nine hundred (900) hours of instructional time for grades 1 through 6; and
(2) one thousand eighty (1,080) hours of instructional time for grades 7 through 12;
in at least one hundred eighty (180) student instructional days. Not later than June 15 of each school year, the superintendent of each school corporation shall certify to the department the number of student instructional days conducted during that school year.
(b) This subsection applies to a school corporation that:
(1) conducts at least:
(A) nine hundred ten (910) hours of instructional time for grades 1 through 6; and
(B) one thousand ninety-two (1,092) hours of instructional
time for grades 7 through 12; and
(2) provides for fewer than one hundred eighty-three (183)
teacher days in the contract entered into with the school
corporation's certificated employees under IC 20-29.
A school corporation may dismiss students for not more than four
(4) hours during each grading period for parent-teacher
conferences. The hours during which students are dismissed under
this subsection shall be counted as student instructional time under
this subsection.
