        A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Charles B. (Red) Whittington.
    

    Whereas, Born on December 21, 1921, at Saint Louis Crossing, Indiana, Charles B. (Red) Whittington is a patriot and a Hoosier hero;

    Whereas, Charles B. (Red) Whittington was one of the first soldiers to report for duty at Camp Swift, Texas, when the 95th Infantry Division was activated in July 1942;

    Whereas, Assigned to I Company, 377 Regiment, Staff Sergeant Whittington left for England in July 1944 and entered combat in October 1944 as part of General George Patton's Third Army;



    Whereas, Promoted to Technical Sergeant, Charles B. (Red) Whittington participated in fierce battles for Chateau Brieux, Maizieres-les-Metz, and downtown Metz;

    Whereas, Tech Sergeant Whittington was wounded in the small French town of Boulay in late November 1944 and was sent to a series of hospitals before being medically discharged in August 1945;

    Whereas, For his bravery during time of war, Charles B. (Red) Whittington was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster, and the European Theater of Operations campaign ribbon with two Battle Stars; and

    Whereas, As the number of the "Greatest Generation" dwindles, it is important that all Americans recognize the service these veterans performed for our country and never forget the sacrifices they made in order to keep our country free: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives thanks Charles B. (Red) Whittington for his dedicated service to his country and his state.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to Charles B. (Red) Whittington and his family.
