A HOUSE RESOLUTION to congratulate Richard Rice on
the occasion of his retirement.
Whereas, Richard Rice is President and CEO of Teachers Credit Union, South Bend, the largest credit union in Indiana; and,
Whereas, a native of Evansville, Mr. Rice is a graduate of
Indiana University in Bloomington, and has studied for a
Master's of Business Administration at Indiana University in
South Bend; and,
Whereas, Mr. Rice has served the credit union for thirty-
five years, having successfully worked his way up to the
position of Executive Vice President by 1980, serving as
President since 1987, and serving on the credit union's board
of directors as treasurer; and,
Whereas, Mr. Rice has for many years engaged with the
world of not-for-profit finance more broadly, serving in 1972
on the inaugural National Youth Involvement Board of the
Credit Union National Association (CUNA), on the
Governmental Affairs Committee of the Indiana Credit Union
League since 1987, and on CUNA's Governmental Affairs
Committee from 2003 to 2004; and,
Whereas, in addition to his work with credit unions, Mr.
Rice has dedicated much of his time and effort to charitable
work and public service, serving on the boards of Memorial
Home Care, the Studebaker National Museum, the Studebaker
Foundation, WNIT, a public broadcasting network serving
Michiana, and Project Future, an economic development
project in St. Joseph County, and being appointed by Governor
Kernan to serve on the board of the Indiana Department of
Financial Institutions, to serve as chairman by Governor
Daniels in 2007, and serving as the 3rd District Representative
to the Indiana State Board of Education from 1998 to 2002;
and,
Whereas, Mr. Rice has already been honored by Governor
O'Bannon with the Distinguished Hoosier Award in 2007:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives officially
recognizes and congratulates Richard Rice on the occasion of his
retirement, and thanks him for his long years of service to his
neighbors, his community, and his home state.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House transmit a copy
of this resolution to Richard Rice.
