A HOUSE RESOLUTION to honor Steve Weatherford.
Whereas, As a Terre Haute North Vigo Patriot, Steve
Weatherford played punter, kicker and safety on the football
team, and set records for the most field goals in a career,
longest punting average and longest field goal made, was
named to the All-Conference team and earned All-State twice
as a kicker;
Whereas, During Mr. Weatherford's college career at the
University of Illinois in 2003, he placed second in the Big Ten
and 12th in the nation in punting average, and was named the
school's Special Teams Player of the Year;
Whereas, In 2004, Sports Illustrated named Mr.
Weatherford the Most Underrated Player in the Big Ten, he
finished second in the Big Ten in punting average and fourth
nationally, and in his senior season, he finished as the school's
leader in career punting average;
Whereas, Mr. Weatherford has played professional football for the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New York Jets;
Whereas, Most recently, Mr. Weatherford returned to
Indiana as the punter for the 2012 Super Bowl XLVI Champion
New York Giants; and,
Whereas, Mr. Weatherford has unselfishly given back to
the Terre Haute community by donating his time and resources
to the Vigo County School Corporation its student athletes and
the community: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives
recognizes the valuable contributions made by Steve Weatherford and
wishes him continued success.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to Mr. Weatherford.
