A HOUSE RESOLUTION to commemorate the 150th
anniversary of the McCabe & McCabe law firm of
Williamsport.
Whereas, James McCabe was born in 1834 in Dark County,
Ohio, moved to Crawfordsville, Indiana, at the age of 17 to
work on the Monon railroad, and in 1861 began to practice law
in Williamsport as a self-taught lawyer;
Whereas, James McCabe was elected to the Indiana
Supreme Court in 1893 and served his six-year term until 1899;
Whereas, On James McCabe's death, close personal friend
William Jennings Bryan made the trip to Williamsport to
deliver a eulogy;
Whereas, James McCabe's two sons both became lawyers,
one of whom, Edwin McCabe, stayed in Williamsport to
practice law with his father, beginning in 1880;
Whereas, Edwin McCabe himself had five sons, of whom three became lawyers, and one of whom, Edward McCabe, stayed in Williamsport to practice law with his father beginning in 1922, Edward's son James E. McCabe following the same path in 1968;
Whereas, By a remarkable coincidence, Edwin, Edward and
James E. McCabe all graduated from Wabash College, exactly
42 years apart; and,
Whereas, In 2009, Kimberly McCabe became the fifth
generation McCabe to practice law in Williamsport when she
joined her father James's practice, now under the name of
McCabe & McCabe: Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana House of Representatives congratulates
the law firm of McCabe & McCabe on the occasion of the 150th
anniversary of the family's law practice in Williamsport, and thanks the
firm and the McCabe family for five generations of service to their
community and their neighbors.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the law firm of
McCabe & McCabe.
