A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Greg Hess.
Whereas, Greg Hess, an Indianapolis firefighter and
paramedic, began Project 9/11 Indianapolis as an effort to
create a permanent memorial in Indianapolis dedicated to
those who died in the collapse of the World Trade Center, on
Flight 93 over Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon
on September 11, 2001;
Whereas, Greg Hess, a member of Indiana Task Force 1,
spent eight days at Ground Zero in New York assisting local
agencies in the rescue and recovery efforts;
Whereas, Greg Hess petitioned the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to obtain two steel beams from the World
Trade Center to be used as the focal point of the Project 9/11
Indianapolis memorial;
Whereas, After months of working with the Port Authority,
Project 9/11 Indianapolis was given possession of two 22-foot
steel beams;
Whereas, Greg Hess accompanied these steel beams
throughout their journey from New York City to Indianapolis;
and
Whereas, It is through the efforts of Greg Hess that Project
9/11 Indianapolis came into being and will help Americans
everywhere remember the lives that were lost on that terrible
day and the courage that was displayed: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives thanks Greg Hess for his dedication and hard work both as a member of Indiana Task Force 1 and as the driving force behind the creation of the Project 9/11 Indianapolis memorial.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to Greg Hess and Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard.
