A RESOLUTION urging the Indiana Department of
Transportation to name the bridge on State Road 29 over
Wildcat Creek in Burlington the "Wayne Lee Swaim Memorial
Bridge".
Whereas, After the death of his mother when he was only a
toddler, Wayne Lee Swaim went to live with his grandparents
along the Wildcat Creek, only a few miles west of the bridge on
State Road 29 that crosses the creek;
Whereas, Wayne loved his country and showed his devotion
by serving in the United States Navy and by becoming an active
member in the Burlington American Legion Post, serving as
Post Commander and Officer for many years;
Whereas, To honor the Burlington World War II veterans, Wayne helped to obtain and transport the US 155mm Howitzer cannon that sits in the Burlington Community Park;
Whereas, A lifelong resident of the Burlington area, Wayne
was actively involved in the community, serving as a Carroll
County Sheriff's Deputy, a member of the Burlington Fire
Department, and the emergency medical technicians;
Whereas, Wayne was employed by the Carroll County
Highway Department and was elected as a Carroll County
Commissioner and a Burlington Township Trustee, served as
Burlington Town Marshal, and was the Burlington Street
Department and Wastewater Utility supervisor;
Whereas, Wayne was elected to the Burlington Town
Council and served on the Carroll County Economic
Development Board;
Whereas, Wayne married and raised four daughters in the
Burlington area and served as a deacon and elder in his
church; and
Whereas, Wayne Lee Swaim was a man of great moral
strength and a friend to all: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives recognizes Wayne Lee Swaim's dedication and service to the people of Indiana and Carroll County and urges the Indiana Department of Transportation to name the bridge on State Road 29 over Wildcat Creek in Burlington the "Wayne Lee Swaim Memorial Bridge".
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the family of Wayne Lee Swaim and the Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation.
