RESOLUTION
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Sid L. Scruggs III.
Whereas, A retired military and commercial airline pilot
and a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Sid L. Scruggs is
the president of The International Association of Lions
Clubs;
Whereas, Mr. Scruggs has held many offices in the Lions
Club and has presented at the USA/Canada and Europa
Leadership forums;
Whereas, Mr. Scruggs has also served as an instructor for
the Lions Clubs International Leadership Institute and the
District Governors-elect School;
Whereas, Active outside The International Association of
Lions Clubs, Mr. Scruggs is chairperson of the board of
directors of the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in
Raleigh, N.C., a member of the board of the Raleigh Lions
Clinic for the Blind, Inc., and a life member of the American
Airlines Grey Eagles Association and the Naval Academy
Alumni Association;
Whereas, Mr. Scruggs was elected to the United States
Blind Golf Association Hall of Fame, was presented with the
Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest award given by the
state of North Carolina, and an honorary doctorate of
humanities from World University;
Whereas, In recognition of his service to The International
Association of Lions Clubs, Mr. Scruggs has received the
100% Club President Award, the Governor of Excellence
Award, the Key of Nations Award for sponsoring more than
100 Lions members, the International Presidential Award,
and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor
The International Association of Lions Clubs gives to its
members;
Whereas, Sid Scruggs is know for his humanitarianism and
his dedication to those in need;
Whereas, Mr. Scruggs adopted families in need, walked
through the woods to a rundown trailer to drop off a box of
food, and helped a terminally ill mother face death;
Whereas, A dedicated family man, Sid Scruggs married his
wife, Judy, in the Naval Academy Chapel; and, while in the
Navy, they had three children, Cyndi, Debbie, and S. Lee, IV.
Their fourth child, Kevin, was born later; and
Whereas, Sid L. Scruggs III has brought his message of
hope to others through his work with the Lions Club:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly wishes to
acknowledge the accomplishments of Sid L. Scruggs III.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Sid L. Scruggs III.
