RESOLUTION
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring the high school girls
selected to the 2010 Girl's All-State First Team Singles and First Team
Doubles tennis teams.
Whereas, For the past 36 years, the Indiana High School
Athletic Association (IHSAA) has encouraged, regulated, and
given direction to wholesome amateur athletic competition
between the member schools that provide a girls tennis team,
currently numbering 313 in single-class post-season
tournaments;
Whereas, The Indiana High School Tennis Coaches
Association augments the mission of the IHSAA through
conventions, rules proposals, district meetings, a match
hotline, score reporting, record maintenance, poll rankings,
post-season recognition, and the Hall of Fame at the
Barbara S. Wynne Tennis Center in Indianapolis;
Whereas, Girls tennis team competition is subservient and
complementary to the primary academic or curricular
functions of education of the member schools;
Whereas, Girls tennis team competition supports the
educational philosophy that athletics is a privilege that must
not be permitted to assume a dominant position in a student's
or member school's program;
Whereas, The minimum academic eligibility standards for high school girl tennis players promote higher educational standards, increase student academic performance, counter
public criticism of schools for low expectations and low
student achievement, and enable schools to use girls tennis
team participation as a motivator for better classroom
performance and achievement;
Whereas, High school girl tennis players engage in
athletic competition solely for the physical, mental, social,
emotional, and pleasurable benefits derived from the activity,
based on current research concerning the needs of the
participants;
Whereas, The varsity and junior varsity aspects of girls
tennis competition provide diverse and well-balanced sports
opportunities available to players of all skill levels according
to their needs and interests;
Whereas, Girls tennis competition provides numerous
opportunities to engage in a lifetime sport that promotes
self-confidence, leadership qualities, the establishment of
desirable interpersonal relationships, and the spirit of fair
play that epitomizes ideal athletics;
Whereas, The conduct of high school girl tennis players
reflects credit upon their member schools and creates a
positive influence on the discipline, good order, and moral
and educational environment in the member schools; and
Whereas, It is appropriate that the players, coaches,
officials, parents, and supporters involved with girls tennis
competition be represented by the 2010 Girl's All-State First
Team Singles and First Team Doubles selected by the
Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association from
nominations made by member coaches: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives recognizes the following high school girls tennis players for their selection to the 2010 Girl's All-State First Team Singles and First Team Doubles by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association from nominations
