RESOLUTION
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing the Schneck
Medical Center on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its
establishment.
Whereas, In March 1910 the Schneck Medical Center was
established with a generous gift of $5,000 and land from
Mary Schneck in memorial to her late husband Louis
Schneck, one of Seymour's pioneer industrialists;
Whereas, The gift of land and money was used to build a 17
bed community hospital with the finest staff and equipment
available at the time, which was dedicated on March 23,
1911;
Whereas, Throughout the first 100 years, the Schneck
Medical Center has been committed to improving staff and
technology to better serve the community;
Whereas, Today, Schneck Medical Center is a 113 all
private patient suite, nonprofit acute care facility featuring
five specialized areas of service, including a state-of-the-art
outpatient center with a pain center and diagnostic imaging,
a 24-hour emergency department, and lab specialties;
Whereas Schneck Medical Center has been the recipient of
numerous awards for quality of care and patient satisfaction;
Whereas, Schneck Medical Center is among the five percent of hospitals nationwide that have achieved Magnet status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and
among the 20 percent that have received Chest Pain Center
Accreditation by the Society of Chest Pain Centers;
Whereas, The excellent work done by the Schneck Medical
Center was recognized with a commendation from the
Commission on Cancer by the American College of
Surgeons, and the bariatric program was named an
American Society of Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence
by the Surgical Review Corporation;
Whereas, Active in the community, the Schneck Medical
Center has established a Health Career Discovery Program
for middle school and high school students interested in
exploring various medical careers; and
Whereas, It is fitting that we join in the celebration of the
100 years of caring, curing, and comforting by the people
involved with Schneck Medical Center: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly joins in the
celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Schneck Medical Center. We
congratulate all those fine people who contributed to its creation and
100 years of service to the community. We extend our best wishes for
continued success as dreams and plans proceed for the next 100 years.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Gary A. Meyer,
President and CEO and the Board of Trustees of Schneck Medical
Center.
