HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Paul Maier.

    Whereas, Mount Vernon High School head football coach Paul Maier helped to make a young football player's dream come true;

    Whereas, That young football player was Jasper High School senior Zach Beckman, whose goal was to "be a real football player and score a touchdown";

    Whereas, Zach, who was born with Down syndrome, had been the manager of the Jasper High School football team his freshman, sophomore, and junior years;

    Whereas, During his senior year, the Jasper High School coaching staff gave Zach player status and allowed him to dress for each game;

    Whereas, As the season progressed, Zach participated in several running plays with the help of teammate Logan Musgrave;

    Whereas, During the final game of the season, Mount Vernon High School head coach Paul Maier decided to help fulfill this young man's dream;

    Whereas, If the Jasper High School coaching staff would give Zach the ball, the Mount Vernon players would allow him to run the ball;


    Whereas, Zach ran with the ball for 59 yards, scoring the first touchdown of his career and receiving a standing ovation from the Jasper and Mount Vernon fans; and

    Whereas, Through the efforts of this Hoosier hero, one young athlete was able to make his dream come true: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly wishes to recognize the kindness of one great man who is truly dedicated to the spirit of athletics and to helping people whenever they need it. Paul Maier is a great example for all Hoosiers.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Coach Paul Maier, the principal of Mount Vernon High School, and the superintendent of the Mount Vernon Community School Corporation.
