HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring the Providence High School girls soccer team.

    Whereas, The Providence High School girls soccer team won the Indiana High School Athletic Association Class A championship on Saturday, October 29, at the Kuntz Memorial Soccer Stadium in Indianapolis;

    Whereas, The girls' victory marks the first time that Providence High School has won an IHSAA championship;

    Whereas, In its first appearance in the Class A state finals, number one ranked Providence won the state title by defeating number five ranked Mishawaka Marian 1-0;

    Whereas, This outstanding defensive game was tied at the end of regulation and two overtime periods, sending the match into a penalty kick shootout;

    Whereas, Providence scored on three of the four shots taken, while Mishawaka Marian scored on only one of its four attempts;

    Whereas, Senior Casey Marlin was among the top goal scorers in Indiana with 37 goals this season, and set the school career scoring record with 96 points;

    Whereas, Casey Marlin and Leah Mattingly were named First Team All State by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association with Kelsey Rogers being named to the Third

Team All State;

    Whereas, Casey Marlin was named to the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association Academic All State First Team and Kelsey Rogers and Erin Wallace were recognized with honorable mentions;

    Whereas, Head Coach Dave Smith was named Class 1A Coach of the Year and District 5 Coach of the Year by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association; and

    Whereas, Outstanding accomplishments such as these deserve special recognition: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates the Providence High School girls soccer team on its state championship and wishes the members success both on and off the soccer field.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to all team members, Head Coach Dave Smith, assistant coaches Abbey Smith and Bobby Holland, Athletic Director Mickey Golembeski, Principal Melinda K. Ernstberger, and School president Joan Hurley.
