HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION

        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the United States Congress to study the issues relating to air travel for the community of persons who are disabled.

    Whereas, Air travel has become a necessity for any person who is disabled and desires to lead an active and productive life;

    Whereas, Travel by air for persons with a disability or special need can often be challenging;

    Whereas, A person with a disability may encounter obstacles even before reaching an airplane seat;

    Whereas, Passengers with disabilities or special needs, however, should not feel discriminated against because their needs are different than the average airline passenger;

    Whereas, Many travelers who are disabled point to the lack of accessibility for and damage to wheelchairs as one of the major problems they face when traveling by air;

    Whereas, Since March is Indiana Disability Awareness Month there is no better time to urge Congress to study the problems persons with disabilities face when traveling;

    Whereas, Almost one-fifth of Indiana's population is made up of adults and children with disabilities;

    Whereas, The goal of Indiana Disability Awareness Month

is to increase awareness and promote independence, integration, and inclusion of all people with disabilities; and

    Whereas, A thorough understanding of the problems faced by persons with disabilities when flying will help to eliminate these problems: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes that there are problems relating to airplane travel for the community of persons who are disabled and urges the United States Congress to study these issues.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the Indiana Congressional delegation.
