HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Martinsville High School Academic Decathlon Team for capturing the state championship in the large school division of the Hoosier Academic Decathlon.

    Whereas, The Martinsville High School Academic Decathlon Team captured its fourteenth consecutive state title in the large school division at the state championship held at Purdue University;

    Whereas, The Artesians defeated Lowell High School and Crown Point High School by scoring the highest overall score in the competition, earning a trip to the national competition held in Charlotte, North Carolina, in April;

    Whereas, Whereas, In addition to the championship, the Martinsville team won five state first place plaques for having the highest team score in the areas of art, economics, language and literature, music, social science, and super quiz;

    Whereas, A young team with only two returning members, the Martinsville High School Academic Decathlon Team scored over 36,000 points en route to the championship;

    Whereas, Coach Wayne Babbitt credits the team's success to the students' outstanding work ethic;

    Whereas, This victory was truly a team effort, with a lot of the credit going to the academic area coaches for their willingness to dedicate so much time and effort to the

training and preparation of the team;

    Whereas, The youth of Indiana represent the future of our state, and the better we educate our children, the brighter their future becomes; and

    Whereas, This state title is a continuation of the long line of successes achieved by the Martinsville High School academic teams: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives congratulates the Martinsville High School Academic Decathlon Team for winning the state championship for the large school division in the Hoosier Academic Decathlon state championship for the fourteenth consecutive year and wishes the team members continued success in all their future endeavors.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to team members Daniel Kerstiens, Lynn Douglas, Brittany Means, Morgan Lane, Ashley Cohen, Olivia Wooten, and Steven Fish, coach Wayne Babbitt, and Don Alkire, principal of Martinsville High School.
