RESOLUTION
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Marty Chitwood.
Whereas, Marty Chitwood has dedicated her life to helping
children;
Whereas, Marty has spent time nurturing children as a
school nurse and as a volunteer at Riley Hospital for
Children in Indianapolis;
Whereas, In the 1960s, Marty Chitwood worked as a
secretary at V. O. Isom Elementary School in Greenwood
and often also worked as a school nurse;
Whereas, As a school nurse, Marty Chitwood comforted
children at a time when they needed someone who could help
them feel better;
Whereas, Marty was the perfect person for that job;
Whereas, When Marty began volunteering at Riley Hospital
for Children in the late 1990s, she had a difficult time
providing comfort for children who were suffering with
cancer;
Whereas, However, Marty overcame her difficulty by
focusing on the needs of the children;
Whereas, The children whose lives Marty Chitwood has touched are extremely grateful for the kindness and tenderness she gave them at a time in their lives when they
needed it most;
Whereas, Marty Chitwood is a beacon of compassion and
hope for the children and their families whose needs extend
beyond medical treatment; and
Whereas, The actions of Marty Chitwood have helped to
improve the quality of life of children who are suffering:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly thanks Marty
Chitwood for her years of dedicated service to the children of Indiana
and the compassion and love she has shown them over the years. The
time she has spent with these children has helped bring some joy into
their lives at a time when they have known mostly pain.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Marty Chitwood
and her family.
