RESOLUTION
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging the United States
Congress to adopt the Veterans Remembered Flag.
Whereas, Our veterans deserve to be treated with honor
and respect;
Whereas, A flag is a symbol of recognition for a group or
an ideal;
Whereas, There are flags for all branches of the United
States Armed Services, prisoners of war, and those missing
in action; however, there is no flag to honor the millions of
former military personnel who have bravely served our
nation;
Whereas, As a group, veterans represent the most
honorable ideal and deserve a special symbol representing
them;
Whereas, It is estimated that there are 20,400,000 living
veterans who served in our nation's military; these brave
individuals comprise a significant portion of our country's
population;
Whereas, A Veterans Remembered Flag will remind all people of the brave warriors who bled and died for freedom around the world in such places as Yorktown and Lexington, Gettysburg and Appomattox, Normandy and the Argonne, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, Seoul and the Chosin Reservoir, Saigon and Pleiku, and Bagram and Baghdad;
Whereas, The citizens of the United States owe an immense debt of gratitude to our veterans for the sacrifices they have made to secure the safety of our country; and
Whereas, The Veterans Remembered Flag will memorialize
and honor all past, present, and future veterans and provide
an enduring symbol of support: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes the
need for a Veterans Remembered Flag recognizing the more than
20,000,000 living men and women who served and the many who died
defending our great nation.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the President of
the United States and the members of the Indiana Congressional
delegation.
