Synopsis: Documents generated during attorney representation. Provides that an attorney may deliver papers in an electronic form to a client, who was convicted of a crime, that were generated through the course of the attorney's representation of the person. Requires the attorney to redact certain information before delivering the papers or documents.

HOUSE BILL No. 1277



    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning courts and court officers.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SOURCE: IC 33-43-1-11; (13)IN1277.1.1. -->     SECTION 1. IC 33-43-1-11 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2013]: Sec. 11. (a) If a person who has been convicted of a crime requests papers or documents:
        (1) from an attorney who represented the person; and
        (2) that were generated through the course of the attorney's representation of the person;
the attorney shall deliver the papers or documents to the person.
    (b) The papers or documents may be delivered to the person in an electronic form.
    (c) Before delivering the papers or documents, the attorney shall redact:
        (1) each Social Security number listed in the papers or documents; and
        (2) a victim's:
            (A) address;
            (B) telephone number; and
            (C) electronic mail address.
