Synopsis: Fox or coyote hunting within enclosed area. Provides that a person may not take a fox or coyote using dogs within an area that is enclosed by an artificial barrier preventing the natural ingress or egress of a fox or coyote.

HOUSE BILL No. 1135



    A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning natural and cultural resources.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SOURCE: IC 14-22-6-12; (11)IN1135.1.1. -->     SECTION 1. IC 14-22-6-12 IS AMENDED TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2011]: Sec. 12. Subject to section 12.5 of this chapter, a person:
        (1) who possesses land; or
        (2) designated in writing by a person who possesses land;
may take coyotes on the land at any time.
SOURCE: IC 14-22-6-12.5; (11)IN1135.1.2. -->     SECTION 2. IC 14-22-6-12.5 IS ADDED TO THE INDIANA CODE AS A NEW SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2011]: Sec. 12.5. (a) This section does not apply to:
        (1) federal properties; or
        (2) other properties owned by a governmental entity that are:
            (A) designated as wildlife areas; or
            (B) designed for hunting or trapping.
    (b) This chapter does not limit the power of the department to:
        (1) regulate hunting and trapping; and
        (2) manage wildlife, including foxes and coyotes.
    (c) A person may not take a fox or coyote using dogs within an area that is enclosed by an artificial barrier that prevents the natural ingress or egress of a fox or coyote.
