SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Louis Turilli of East Moline, who passed
4away on August 26, 2016; and
5 WHEREAS, Louis Turilli was born on July 3, 1915 in Chicago;
6his parents were Baccio and Eugenia Turilli; he married Osvalda
7"Ozzi" Carmignani on April 28, 1946 in Chicago; and
8 WHEREAS, During the years preceding World War II, Louis
9Turilli was employed by the Metropolitan State Bank in Chicago
10for seven years; he was inducted into the United States Army in
11September of 1942; after completing basic training, he was
12selected to attend Officers Candidate School at Field Artillery
13School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma; after graduating from Officers
14Candidate School, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in
15the Field Artillery and assigned to the 27th Division in the
16Hawaiian Islands; on June 1, 1944, the division left the
17Hawaiian Islands and joined a large convoy for the attack on
18the island of Saipan, where he served as an Artillery Forward
19Observer on Saipan and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal; he
20spent the winter of 1944-1945 on the New Hebrides Islands to
21regroup and prepare for the next mission on Okinawa; on
22Okinawa, he was the Battery Executive Officer in charge of the
23battery's 105mm howitzers; after the end of the war, he was

1promoted to Battery Commander of "A" Battery and flown into
2Japan with elements of the 27th Division to ensure the safety
3of the formal Army of Occupation that had already landed in
4Japan; he left Japan on December 1, 1945 and arrived home in
5Chicago on December 27; he received his honorable discharge
6from the Army on March 31, 1946; and
7 WHEREAS, After the war, Louis Turilli owned and operated
8the family restaurant in Chicago for seven years; in February
9of 1952, he entered the civil service as a civilian employee of
10the United States Department of the Army, where he worked for
11the Chicago Ordinance District, the Army Procurement and Supply
12Agency in Joliet, AMCCOM, and the Rock Island Arsenal until he
13retired in September of 1976 as a Contracting Officer; he went
14on to work as a self-employed Marketing Consultant to private
15Department of Defense contractors until his retirement in
16September of 1995; and
17 WHEREAS, Louis Turilli was a member of Christ the King
18Catholic Church in Moline, the Rock Island Arsenal Historical
19Society, AARP, the 27th Infantry Association, the National
20Association of Retired Federal Employees, the World War II
21Memorial Society, the Colonel Davenport Historical Foundation,
22the National Museum of the U.S. Army, and the American Legion;

1 WHEREAS, Louis Turilli was an avid Chicago White Sox fan
2and enjoyed following all sports with his sons; and
3 WHEREAS, Louis Turilli was preceded in death by his wife,
4Osvalda; his parents; his brothers, Dewey and William; and his
5sisters, Lillian Fundahn and Lyda Deacetis; and
6 WHEREAS, Louis Turilli is survived by his sons, Louis
7(Carole Bryan) Turilli, Larry (Laurie) Turilli, and James
8(Rodger Van Hyfte) Turilli; his grandchildren, Jaime (Randall)
9Turilli Bill, Stacey (Jeffery) Runde, Matthew Turilli,
10Victoria Bryan O'Neal, John (Katie) Bryan, and James
11(Stephanie) Bryan; and his great-grandchildren, Holden and
12Hadley Bill, Weston Runde, Katherine and Elliot O'Neal, Jackson
13Bryan, Phoebe Bryan, and Louie's Angel; therefore, be it
14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
16family and friends, mourn the passing of Louis Turilli; and be
17it further
18 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Louis Turilli as an expression of
20our sympathy.
