2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Dickey Ray Mizell of Granite City, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on June 11, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell was born in Metropolis to Donald O. | ||||||
6 | "Pete" Mizell and Florence C. (Whalen) Dotson on September 20, | ||||||
7 | 1943; he served his country from 1960 to 1962 in the United | ||||||
8 | States Air Force and was united in marriage to Sandra Sue | ||||||
9 | Jeffords on March 22, 1966; he and his family settled in | ||||||
10 | Granite City in 1969; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell worked many years for Mercer-Thomas | ||||||
12 | Mortuaries in Granite City; he served as a Madison County | ||||||
13 | Deputy Coroner; he then went on to work as a Legal Investigator | ||||||
14 | for the Talbert and Mallon Law Firm in Alton and the Williams | ||||||
15 | and Caponi Law Firm in Belleville; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell was a past Governor of the Granite | ||||||
17 | City Moose Lodge 272; he was a former member of the National | ||||||
18 | Association of Legal Investigators, the Granite City Jaycees, | ||||||
19 | and AMVETS; he served as a Granite City Precinct Committeeman; | ||||||
20 | and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, |

1 | playing cards, and playing poker; he was known for his barbecue | ||||||
2 | and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Days of Our Lives; | ||||||
3 | and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell was preceded in death by his | ||||||
5 | parents; his brother, Robert J. Mizell; his sister, Mary Helen | ||||||
6 | Medley; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles Leslie | ||||||
7 | Jeffords and Rhudell Jeffords; his brothers-in-law, Berle Parr | ||||||
8 | and Wesley Smithart; his niece, Brenda K. Worthen; and his | ||||||
9 | nephews, Ricky and James Parmer; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Dickey Mizell is survived by his wife of 50 years, | ||||||
11 | Sandra; his sons, Tim Mizell and friend, Julie, Don Mizell and | ||||||
12 | wife, Lesa, and Jason Mizell and wife, Jessica; Gary Sellers, | ||||||
13 | who was like a son to him, and wife, Julie; his grandchildren, | ||||||
14 | Noah, Isaiah, Amanda, Jaime, Kayla, Drew, Dillan, Brenna, and | ||||||
15 | Leah; his sisters, Marcia K. Smithart and Stephanie Parr; his | ||||||
16 | daughter-in-law, Debye Mizell; his sisters-in-law and | ||||||
17 | brother-in-law, Patricia A. and Ellis Reynolds, and Mary E. | ||||||
18 | Mizell and Howard Medley; and several nieces, nephews, | ||||||
19 | great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, | ||||||
20 | be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
23 | Dickey Ray Mizell, and extend our sincere condolences to his |

1 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||

3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
