2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Michael A. Markell of Rock Island, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on May 27, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Michael Markell was born on December 29, 1950 in | ||||||
6 | Ottumwa, Iowa; his parents were Joseph and Margaret Markell; he | ||||||
7 | married Mynda Thorpe on August 24, 1986 in Las Vegas, Nevada; | ||||||
8 | and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Michael Markell served his country proudly in the | ||||||
10 | United States Air Force during the Vietnam era; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Michael Markell was employed at Alcoa for 28 years | ||||||
12 | until his retirement in 2003; he also worked as a mill operator | ||||||
13 | and wage evaluator for United Steel Workers Local 105; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Michael Markell was a member of the Rock Island | ||||||
15 | GROWTH board and United Steel Workers Local 105; he also served | ||||||
16 | as president of the Greenbush Neighbors; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Michael Markell enjoyed gardening and spending | ||||||
18 | time with his family and friends; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Michael Markell was preceded in death by his |

1 | parents and his sister, Josephine; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Michael Markell is survived by his wife, Myndie; | ||||||
3 | his mother and father-in-law, Priscilla and Bob Bass; his | ||||||
4 | sisters-in-law, Lisa (Don) Johnson and Ellen (Barry) Leeds; his | ||||||
5 | nieces, Katelyn and Jennifer; his nephews, Kyle and Sean, and | ||||||
6 | his great niece, Allurah; therefore, be it

7 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
8 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
9 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Michael A. Markell; | ||||||
10 | and be it further
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of Michael Markell as an expression of | ||||||
13 | our sympathy.
