2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Joan B. Shannon, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | August 23, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Joan Shannon was born in Chicago in 1938 to Dr. | ||||||
6 | Nicholas and Isabel Balsamo; she graduated from Trinity High | ||||||
7 | School in River Forest and Clarke College (now Clarke | ||||||
8 | University) in Dubuque, Iowa; she married Ed Shannon and they | ||||||
9 | settled in River Forest; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Joan Shannon worked as an art teacher at St. | ||||||
11 | Edmund Elementary School in Oak Park and a "picture lady" at | ||||||
12 | St. Luke Parish School in River Forest; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Joan Shannon enjoyed spending summers at their | ||||||
14 | vacation home in Door County, Wisconsin; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Joan Shannon was preceded in death by her parents | ||||||
16 | and her sister, Donna Gubbins; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Joan Shannon is survived by her husband, Edward J. | ||||||
18 | Shannon, Jr.; her children, Edward J. Shannon, III, John | ||||||
19 | Shannon, Brigid Shannon, and Jane Kennedy; her siblings, | ||||||
20 | Richard "Dick" Balsamo and Diane "Dee Dee" Goggin; and her 4 |

2 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
3 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
4 | Joan B. Shannon, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
5 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
6 | further
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to the family of Joan Shannon as an expression of our | ||||||
9 | deepest sympathy.
