SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joan B. Shannon, who passed away on
4August 23, 2014; and
5 WHEREAS, Joan Shannon was born in Chicago in 1938 to Dr.
6Nicholas and Isabel Balsamo; she graduated from Trinity High
7School in River Forest and Clarke College (now Clarke
8University) in Dubuque, Iowa; she married Ed Shannon and they
9settled in River Forest; and
10 WHEREAS, Joan Shannon worked as an art teacher at St.
11Edmund Elementary School in Oak Park and a "picture lady" at
12St. Luke Parish School in River Forest; and
13 WHEREAS, Joan Shannon enjoyed spending summers at their
14vacation home in Door County, Wisconsin; and
15 WHEREAS, Joan Shannon was preceded in death by her parents
16and her sister, Donna Gubbins; and
17 WHEREAS, Joan Shannon is survived by her husband, Edward J.
18Shannon, Jr.; her children, Edward J. Shannon, III, John
19Shannon, Brigid Shannon, and Jane Kennedy; her siblings,
20Richard "Dick" Balsamo and Diane "Dee Dee" Goggin; and her 4

1grandchildren; therefore, be it
2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
4Joan B. Shannon, and extend our sincere condolences to her
5family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
6further
7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the family of Joan Shannon as an expression of our
9deepest sympathy.
