2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Eugene L. "Gene" Adams of McHenry, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on February 6, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Eugene Adams was born in McHenry to Lewis and | ||||||
6 | Clara (nee Pitzen) Adams on June 13, 1920; he graduated from | ||||||
7 | McHenry High School in 1938 and worked at Pitzen's Camp "The | ||||||
8 | Bay" while going to high school and after graduation; at the | ||||||
9 | age of 21, he was inducted into the United States Army and | ||||||
10 | served during World War II from 1941 until 1945; as an | ||||||
11 | infantryman, he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon | ||||||
12 | with 3 Bronze Battle Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon | ||||||
13 | with 1 Bronze Battle Star, and a Purple Heart Medal; after his | ||||||
14 | honorable discharge, he married Marion Hausheer at St. Mary | ||||||
15 | Church in McHenry on August 22, 1946; and

16 | WHEREAS, Eugene Adams worked for Henry Muntz & Son of Elgin | ||||||
17 | as an on-the-road hardware salesman; one of his accounts was | ||||||
18 | Lee & Ray Electric, and in the early 1950s, he joined the | ||||||
19 | business as part-owner; his role grew until ownership was | ||||||
20 | turned over to his sons, Paul and Greg in December of 1973; | ||||||
21 | from 1974 to his retirement in June of 1985, he worked for | ||||||
22 | Englewood Electrical Supply; and

1 | WHEREAS, Eugene Adams enjoyed fishing, gardening, and | ||||||
2 | getting together with his friends; his monthly card club | ||||||
3 | gathering with his buddies spanned 70 years; he often referred | ||||||
4 | to himself as the V.P. of the L.C.G. (the Leinenkugal Choral | ||||||
5 | Group), an annual fishing trip at Clam Lake; he volunteered, | ||||||
6 | along with his wife, for the FISH food pantry in McHenry; he | ||||||
7 | was a longtime member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. | ||||||
8 | Mary Court 594; he was a lifelong member of St. Mary Church in | ||||||
9 | McHenry, where he ushered; he was also a member and past | ||||||
10 | President of the McHenry Kiwanis, where he organized the Peanut | ||||||
11 | Day fundraiser for several years; he was also involved with the | ||||||
12 | beginning of Little League Baseball in McHenry and a member of | ||||||
13 | Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 in McHenry; and

14 | WHEREAS, Eugene Adams was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
15 | his wife, Marion; his son, Greg; and his brother, Charles "Bud" | ||||||
16 | "Sharky" Adams; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Eugene Adams is survived by his 5 children, John | ||||||
18 | "Jack" (Janet) Adams, Paul (Marjory) Adams, Mark (Sharon) | ||||||
19 | Adams, Mary (Tom) Knaack, and Patricia (Mark) Giacomo; his 14 | ||||||
20 | grandchildren; and his 5 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
23 | Eugene L. "Gene" Adams, and extend our sincere condolences to |

1 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
2 | further
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
4 | presented to the family of Eugene Adams as an expression of our | ||||||
5 | deepest sympathy.
